"What IS THIS?" as my friend Luca might say. It is a lullaby of sorts, a string septet almost, possibly like a jazz standard...

I experimented adding drums and guitar to this one, but early on it was clear that seven melodic voices were plenty to create the floating atmosphere I was going for. Structurally, it's a straightforward AABA shape, but dressed up rather dramatically: the initial melody (A1) is proposed by a solo bass, which at A2 pivots to the roots while the violin takes up the melody, then there's a little twist at the end of this phrase here opening the door for B, at which 5 inside voices (like the album title haha) fill in the middle harmony. Then for the final A statement the bass returns to the melody, the middle voices continue, and the top violin plays a counterline that is one bar behind the melody BUT using the rhythms of the melody... a RHYTHMIC CANON, if you will.
