I only really write three songs over and over again. This is one of them, or rather, the first one of one of them. I don’t remember writing it, but I know it was during the painful end of a relationship at the moment when it became clear to me that something important to me was drifting away in the distance. Over time it has become easier for me to play this tune. Except for a couple harmonic twists and turns, and a counterline that implies some other events, it’s a pretty fundamental song. Later on I began to play it in drop D and added an ending called “Marlena’s Skirt” from the FringeFest show. Many, many people have been drawn to this song… I’ve had the pleasure to hear lots of other people perform it.
