Thin Air
Wow, this song. I wrote it in the Canada Rockies, outdoors on my father’s acoustic guitar… thus the thin air part. It was the first of many melodies that were very guitaristic but simple harmonically. I was listening to so much of Bill Frisell’s music, and it finally felt safe to do this. There also is a lot of subdominant resolutions and alternate root motion, which I see as a huge trend in what I write (see Vanishing Point also)… V to I just wouldn’t do it for me sometimes, and I find myself exploring other options. The melody isn’t stellar but it has always been a fun tune to bend apart when the band is craving something to stretch out on.

The melodies are haunting, the grooves are devastating, and the band expertly serves jazz purists, indie-rock hipsters, and funk loving jam fans alike.

"...jazz as if Kenny G and Wynton Marsalis never came along to ruin the genre's mainstream and leave its great minds to squawk away in an underground vacuum." -Flagpole
